Every Friday we are taking the opportunity to share “our favorites!” Whether it’s an antique store, local restaurant, travel spot or clothing store, we’re going to share what we think rocks!
This week we’re sharing our favorite local treats. Anywhere you travel, you’re likely to find deliciously tasty treats tucked into some secret corner that sells those scrumptious gems that you’ve just got to share with the world. As we are both self-proclaimed foodies that look forward to a good “cheat day”, we feel more than qualified to pass positive judgement on our favorite spot to catch a savory bite to eat.
My favorite treat this week is more savory than sweet. As some of you may already know that my signature drink is an extra dry vodka martini with olives, then you will know that my next favorite cocktail is the Sale Parisian martini from Bastille Cafe & Bar in Ballard. The Sale Parisian is a vodka martini prepared the same way as any standard dirty martini, but sub the olives with gherkin pickles. Sounds kinda of strange, right? Well, it is the most delivious martini if you like pickles! The Sale Parisian is no longer on their menu, but if you order it, they will be happy to make it for you!
Bastille holds a close place in my heart because it was the first restaurant we both LOVED during one of my visits to Seattle before I moved here. And since then it’s been our go-to spot to celebrate big events…new jobs, anniversaries, even the night we got engaged we stopped here with friends for celebratory drinks. And we ALWAYS bring our visitors here for dinner at least once. Usually we’ll grab a seat at the bar, chat with the fantastic bartenders, toast our cocktails and nibble on their delicious baguette with sea salt butter and pomme frites with aioli.
Did I mention that the architecture and decor is quite stunning as well? You will feel like you stepped right into a cafe off the streets of Paris. Practically every piece of furniture, lighting and decor has been re-purposed making it a warm and intimate atmosphere. Cheers! -k
I have a sweet tooth the size of Texas, so if there’s sugar involved, I’ve probably scoped it out! Get me to a Seattle area farmer’s market now! Once you try a JonBoy black sea salt caramel is will make you a caramel snob for life! I have always loved caramels, so it’s not often that I’ll pass one up. The first time I tried a JonBoy caramel, I knew that the bar had just been set. Luckily, you can find them in small packages at Whole Foods Market and PCC Natural Market, but my favorite place to get them is at the Ballard Farmer’s Market. I love farmer’s markets in general, but the Ballard Farmer’s Market is a treat. There’s a ton of stuff to check out and goodies to try, and hey, grab a JonBoy black sea salt caramel while you’re there and make it a super special day. -hs
As always, don’t be hesitant to share your faves with us in the comments and we’ll be sure to check them out! Have a great weekend and TGIF!
