In a year in which going on holiday isn’t really an option, we figured we’d just bring vacation to us! It’s Reveal Week of the One Room Challenge and we are beyond excited to share this before and after. In six short weeks, we turned this completely uninspired guest room into a spectacular little getaway spot.
Can you believe this is what this room looked like before?
If you’re not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it’s such a fantastic event! Twenty talented Designers/Bloggers/DIYers and a whole slew of Guest Participants overhaul a space of their choosing. In six weeks, all participants reveal their room makeover for the world to see. So much goes into each of these projects and it truly is a celebration of hard work and incredible vision. You can see the Fall 2020 One Room Challenge 20 Featured Designers Here . This season, they will actually be wowing us with a Digital Transformation in lieu of a traditional transformation due to the restraints of Covid and we are personally so excited to see how this new way of doing things shakes out! You can also keep up to date with the rest of the Guest Participants Here to see what so many others are getting themselves into!
So, just as a quick refresher, here’s a picture of the space before. And dark and dreary, unfortunately boring space with a lot of potential. The brick was beautiful, but just too dark. The carpet was soft, but just made it feel a little dingy.
Because this room is in a daylight basement, we really had to focus on great lighting. So, along with throwing some fresh white Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace on the walls, we added excellent lamps and an incredible light fixture. This new drop chandelier took some serious creativity to get to work in here, but we’re glad we stuck with it to make it work because the amount of light it gives off is WELL worth the effort.
The gallery wall definitely makes a massive impact on this room. It also provided an opportunity to display so many beautiful things that have been accumulated from travels all over the globe which just seems so fitting for this guest room.
New floors and new rugs certainly made a huge impact on the space too. The whole house feels like it’s starting to really have a nice, cohesive vibe which is always important.

Love how this room turned out! Especially that you embraced the wood tone of those doors and really brought them out with the rest of the design
Heather! There are so many elements I want to praise you on!!! First off, its gorgeous! I love the black that carries onto the ceiling. All the natural elements, the light, that headboard! You would never know it was in a basement! Well done!
