Moms…  What can we say.  Never enough, that’s for sure!  Perhaps Abraham Lincoln said it best, “all that I am or hope to be, I owe to my Angel Mother.”  We wanted to take the time to recognize all they have done to make us who we are today.

Heather Gilbertson met me, Heather Scherie, when I was about one.  She thought my dad was a stone fox!  And, I was pretty cute too!  The connection was the “real deal,” and the two were married shortly after and off we rode into the sunset as a little family.

Heather is the most creative, talented, and capable woman I know.  She managed three children, a household, and constant moving for my dads career.  She always worked full time and still managed to have a home cooked meal on the table for her family.  I remember when I was graduating college and my life felt incredibly hectic, working full time, finishing school, planning a move… I thought to myself, “my mother MUST have been super woman to keep it all together all the time!”

I know without a doubt that I get my creative talent for making a space both beautiful and function from my mother.  We moved A LOT and no matter what home we lived in, no matter what design challenges it provided, she always did her absolute best to make sure that we felt it was our very own home.  I feel blessed to have experienced her capability to always make our houses feel like home.  When I meet a client that has recently relocated or is in a temporary living situation, I can confidently take on their project because I understand their situation.

Thanks mom.  You are a truly magnificent woman and I am grateful for everything I’ve learned from you. Your talent and understanding of what a family needs to really feel “at home,” makes me the designer I am today.  I love you and Happy Mothers Day! xx Heather Scherie

When I think about Mother’s Day I always get pretty sentimental because I reflect on my childhood and think about how amazing my mom was. And a lot of the time the only words that come to my mind are “I don’t know how she did it?”

Raising FIVE kids as a stay at home mom, she was a busy lady; catering to our needs, helping with homework, having a home cooked meal on the table every night, endless chauffeuring all of us around to activities, play dates and sports practices. I can’t even remember her complaining, acting like to she was stressed or too busy. She and my dad always made each one of us feel unconditionally loved and gave us just enough attention that we needed. And the woman can do it all! She is the ultimate DIYer, weekend warrior, sewer, quilter, house remodeler. Did I mention that she is in the midst of renovating and remodeling not one, but two bathrooms right now, making it 5 bathroom remodels in the last 4 years!  I know exactly where I got my interior design knack from! 😉

You are my role model and I hope that one day when Billy and I start a family I can do half as good of job raising your future grand children as you did us.

Mom, I love you. I miss you. I hope you have a beautiful day surrounded by most of your children and I will see you soon! I love you to the moon and back.

xoxo Katie
