With my wedding day right around the corner, I find myself filled with emotions and eager for the day to arrive. I am so grateful for my friends and family that have made such large efforts to help me pull things together and am the most grateful for the support and love I get from my future husband.
Interior Design and Event Design is what we do best here at Whitestone Design Group, so we are happy to start sharing my journey to get myself down that aisle. We understand that when a woman gets engaged, the design process can be so overwhelming. Very few of us wind up with our original vision as our final result, but it always seems that no many how many issues come up, design ideas change, and RSVP’s aren’t returned, the day turns out gorgeous and our brides wind up surrounded by love! Even doing this for a living, I was not exempt from all of the above. But, the show must go on! Here is my journey to date.
VENUE
Getting married in Seattle can be quite expensive. My fiancĂ© and I decided early on an industrial type of feel thinking that we might find pricing for a venue with these aesthetics less expensive than a gorgeous country club. So, after a few weeks of looking into the look we liked, we decided that we were committed to not blowing a third of our budget on strictly the shell of our event. We shifted our sites a little bit and it really worked out in our favor! The Hall we found had amazing natural light, clean lines, and a great, neutral palette to work with. After being in the space for no more than two minutes, we looked at one another and knew it was were we wanted to say our “I Do’s!”Below are some images of our event space and we couldn’t be happier.

DESIGN
This is where I really felt the most pressure! Being in this industry, Katie and I are surrounded by everything new and upcoming, traditional and timeless, and modern and on trend. When you’re right in the middle of all of it, it can be really hard to see straight and focus on what really makes us happy instead of just what will photograph beautifully. For myself, I was really committed to a strong blend of industrial modernism, juxtaposed with soft, romantic elements. However, with the shift in the aesthetic of our space, I knew I was going to have to make some adjustments to my concept. In addition, a few months after our engagement, I was seeing the color palette I loved was on every wedding blog site. Below is an example of my original, overall mood board.
DRESS
The wedding dress was definitely my favorite part!! It was so good for me to get out and actually try some of the garments I had fallen in love with on. Every woman’s shape is so unique to her, but I assure you, there’s a wedding dress for all of us. In the beginning, I had a strong desire for something sleek and glamourous. I wanted to make a fashion statement and walk my own bridal path. I was so attracted to stylish and sophisticated details… However, I couldn’t silence my inner preppy girl either! I was ridiculously torn until I finally experienced that coveted moment so many brides talk about. You know the one! The right dress brought tears to my eyes as I imagined myself walking down the aisle slowly to my handsome groom. I know in my heart that I made the right decision, but I still love looking at all the beautiful gowns I fell in love with at first sight!
I am so excited to see it all come together. This is such an important time in couples lives and I’m happy that I get to share this experience with you. If you find yourself in a time of making tough decisions and unexpected dilemmas, take a deep breath. We’ve all been there and as every bride has told me, you will completely forget the complexities when the day finally arrives. I can’t wait to share how this all comes together!!
